Application Process
All community adults and students who wish to serve as a Yuma Regional Medical Center must be referred to the Volunteer Services Department for proper intake and training.
The Volunteer Department will be responsible for application, interviewing and screening all potential volunteers prior to acceptance into the program.
They must receive a TB skin test or x-ray, provide proof of immunity to measles, mumps and rubella, and have a hospital identification picture/badge completed prior to becoming an active volunteer.
All new volunteers are required to complete a general orientation, which covers the following subjects:
Confidentiality, General Infection Control, Universal Precautions, Hepatitis B Information, Radiation Safety, Fire Safety, Emergency Codes and Procedures, MSDS and Safety Manual General Overview, Chemical Hazards, Injury Procedures, Patient Transport and Wheelchair Procedures.
Specific on-the-job training, beyond what is covered in the general orientation, is the responsibility of the utilizing department and must be completed within the first 90 days from the volunteer start date. The completed job-specific training documentation form must be submitted to the Volunteer Services Department within 90 days. All volunteers should receive a job description and be familiar with it.
The Director of Volunteers shall be responsible for interfacing with all YRMC Departments to ensure adequate and efficient program development and proper volunteer support, supervision and utilization.
