March 18, 2014 – Yuma, AZ - Fry's Food Stores recently awarded the Foundation of Yuma Regional Medical Center a $5,000 grant through its Giving Hope a Hand campaign. The Giving Hope a Hand campaign provides grants to support cancer awareness, treatment and research in local communities.
"The Foundation of YRMC is committed to increasing breast cancer awareness in Yuma County," said Wayne Steffey, Foundation Executive Director. "We are honored to continue our ongoing partnership with Fry's Food Stores to bring additional cancer resources to our community."
The $5,000 grant award will be used to support Bridget's Gift and the Yuma Coalition for Awareness, two programs within the Foundation of YRMC that provide breast cancer support in Yuma. Bridget's Gift will use the funds to provide financial support for low-income women who are experiencing breast cancer, and the Yuma Coalition for Awareness will provide low-cost breast cancer screenings for uninsured women.
The Giving Hope a Hand campaign was committed to donating $3 million to local breast cancer initiatives nation-wide during the month of October 2013 in support of the National Breast Cancer Awareness month. Since the onset of this campaign in 2006, more than $18 million has been disbursed to support breast cancer research, education and services.
"Knowing the toll breast cancer takes on the lives of our associates and customers, Fry's is continuing its commitment to finding a cure for this deadly disease and helping women and their families find the treatment and resources they need to face their illness," said Pam Giannonatti, Fry's Consumer/Community Relations Manager.
