(October 10, 2011 – Yuma, AZ) – The Foundation of Yuma Regional Medical Center presented Sunset Community Health Center with $25,000 in support of the School Health Care Program. This represents the second payment on the Foundation’s annual pledge of $100,000. Since 1996, the Foundation of YRMC has raised over $1,175,000 to sustain this important program.

With an objective of providing free medical care to children whose families lack health insurance, the School Health Care Program has served over 17,000 children since its inception – a number that grows every day. Services are made available throughout Yuma County including Rancho Viejo School, Pecan Grove School, San Luis and the East County Mobile Clinic.

“With the continued support from the Foundation and the recently received HRSA grant, Sunset is positioned to expand the program into the Somerton School District and adding additional provider clinic days at existing school locations,” said Sunset Chief Executive Officer, David Rogers. “Sunset is pleased and proud to continue meeting basic primary health care needs of uninsured kids in our schools.”

“The School Health Care Program is a unique solution for Yuma County by providing health care to uninsured elementary school-aged children,” said Foundation of YRMC Executive Director, Wayne A. Steffey. “It fills a gap that would otherwise go unanswered. We are very happy to have formed a relationship with Sunset Community Health Center to administer and expand the program. The Foundation knows the School Health Care Program greatly benefits Yuma County.”

The mission of the Foundation of Yuma Regional Medical Center is to support a healthy community through philanthropy. Qualified as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Foundation relies on donations to support community programs such as the School Health Care Program; healthcare scholarships; diabetes education; cancer screening and support; and the Y.O.U.T.H. Obesity Initiative.
