(March 11, 2013 – Yuma, AZ) The Foundation of Yuma Regional Medical Center will award over $40,000 in scholarships to Yuma County residents pursuing a career in health.
The Foundation has awarded nearly a quarter of a million dollars in health care scholarships to Yuma residents since it started the program in 2004. "These scholarships benefit the students, but they also benefit the community," said Wayne Steffey, Executive Director of the Foundation of Yuma Regional Medical Center. "These students often come back to work in our area hospital and clinics. We're not only investing in the future of these students, but in the future of health care delivery in Yuma County as well."
The scholarships can make a significant impact for students, particularly those balancing school with obstacles such as full-time jobs or parenting. Martina Sepulveda, a recipient of a 2012 scholarship, expressed her gratitude for the program. "The impact that organizations like yours have on students entering college for the first time is immeasurable. It means the world."
At least 20 grants of $2,000 each will be awarded. Applications are due to the Foundation by Friday, March 22nd at 5:00 pm and are available on our website at http://www.yumaregional.org/programs.
