Community members assisted through Enrollment Fairs, Yuma Regional Outpatient Clinics and Patient Access
Yuma, AZ – March 31, 2014- With the deadline to enroll in Marketplace approaching tonight, YRMC is reporting that the hospital has assisted nearly 2,200 individuals in Yuma County with health insurance applications through health insurance fairs, individual appointments at Yuma Regional Outpatient Clinics and assistance through the Patient Access department. This includes applications for the Health Insurance Exchange as well as AHCCCS, Arizona's Medicaid program.
Beginning in late 2013, YRMC began an aggressive campaign to educate the community on healthcare changes in 2014 and assisted with enrollment through multiple channels. In addition to health insurance enrollment fairs and one-on-one appointments, YRMC wrote letters to potential applicants, produced an educational brochure, partnered with local media outlets to increase public awareness and built a Marketplace website.
"It is extremely important for all individuals to have some form of health insurance," said Pat Walz, President & CEO of YRMC. "Health insurance allows individuals to see a primary care doctor on a regular basis and is vital to preventative and comprehensive healthcare. As a hospital, it is important to us as it alleviates the volumes we see in our Emergency Department, which should be reserved for emergency cases. All in all, it translates to better healthcare for all parties."
