(June 9, 2014 – Yuma, AZ) The community is invited to join NexGen and the Foundation of YRMC at Lutes Casino on Thursday, June 12 and June 19 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. for a takeover in support of the Drive for School Supplies.
"NexGen has hosted this takeover for the last four years," says Matt Molenar, NexGen representative. "Last year over $1,600 was raised for the Drive for School Supplies. We hope to exceed that amount this year, so come on out to Lutes and help support Yuma county students."
"The Drive for School Supplies was created in 2000 to provide the less fortunate children in Yuma County with the school supplies they need to start the new school year," said Foundation Executive Director, Wayne Steffey. "The Foundation and those served through the Drive for School Supplies are very grateful to NexGen for their continued support."
In the last 14 years, the Drive for School Supplies has provided 30,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to children in Yuma County. This year, over 5,100 filled backpacks have been requested from local area schools throughout Yuma County, San Pasquel and several service organizations. This year's Drive is again being co-chaired by Rachael Barkley and Tom Tyree.
The Foundation of YRMC works with volunteers, businesses and organizations throughout the Yuma community to raise funds and acquire supplies to fulfill backpack orders. Each filled backpack costs the Drive for School Supplies $13. Donations can be made online at www.yumaregional.org or at the Foundation located at 399 W 32nd Street. In addition to monetary gifts, donations of school supplies such as backpacks, crayons, markers, colored pencils, glue sticks, 3-ring binders, folders, notebook paper, rulers, erasers and dictionaries can be made and are accepted at the Foundation of Yuma Regional Medical Center. All donations are tax-deductible.
The mission of the Foundation of Yuma Regional Medical Center is to support a healthy community through philanthropy. Qualified as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Foundation relies on donations to support community programs such as the Drive for School Supplies, School Health Care Program; healthcare scholarships; diabetes education; breast cancer screening and support; nutrition education and the Y.O.U.T.H.
