One of the first steps toward identifying the underlying cause of a patient's heart condition is to undergo one or more tests. The staff at Heart Center of Yuma uses advanced technology to conduct the following diagnostic tests:
An aortic angiogram is a test that takes pictures of the aorta. This is the main blood vessel that carries blood from your heart to the rest of your body. This test shows problems with your aorta, such as a blockage or an aneurysm (a balloon-like bulge in the wall of the aorta).
Electrophysiology studies test the electrical activity of your heart to find where an abnormal heartbeat is coming from. These results can help you and your doctor decide whether you need medicine, a pacemaker, an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), cardiac ablation or surgery.
Heart catheterization involves passing a thin flexible tube (catheter) into the right or left side of the heart from the groin or arm to get information about the heart or its blood vessels. It may also be done to treat some types of heart conditions, or to find out if you need heart surgery.
Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Testing
Non-invasive cardiovascular testing procedures use electronic monitoring, sound waves and other technologies to measure how well a patient's heart is functioning. The non-invasive tests and procedures available are:
|Tilt Table Study
Minimally Invasive Therapeutic Procedures
Minimally invasive procedures are performed using one or more small incisions rather than the larger incisions required for traditional surgery. These smaller incisions allow the patient to recover more quickly. Minimally invasive procedures for the treatment of heart disease available are:
- Balloon angioplasty
- Bi-Ventricular Pacemaker Implant
- Cardiac catheterization
- Carotid stenting
- Coronary stenting
- ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) insertion
- Impella (Left Ventricular Assist Device)
- Intra-aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
- Loop Recorder Implant
- Pacemaker implantation
- Percutaneous vena cava filter
- Peripheral Leg Stents/Angioplasty
- Renal Stents
- Rotoblator procedures
The cardiac surgeons at the Heart Center of Yuma perform a wide range of surgical procedures to treat patients with heart disease. These procedures include:
- Cardiac bypass surgery
- Heart valve repair and replacement
- Radiofrequency maze procedure
- Thoracic aortic surgery
After any of the surgical procedures, patients are admitted to the Cardiac Care Center. The staff of this unit is dedicated to delivering a high level of patient-family focused care by ensuring that nurses spend as much time at the patient's bedside as possible.
