Education and Resources

CPR and First Aid Education Classes
As a service to the public and healthcare providers in our community, Yuma Regional Medical Center offers courses taught by instructors certified by the American Heart Association.

  • Heartsaver® CPR and First Aid -- This class combines the Heartsaver® CPR class with Heartsaver® First Aid, a classroom course that teaches basic first aid skills such as stopping visible bleeding, helping someone with a possible broken bone or sprain, and making sure the scene is safe. Upon successful completion of the class, participants will receive both an American Heart Association Heartsaver® CPR Course Completion Card and Heartsaver® First Aid Course Completion card, each valid for two years.

    Schedule: Usually offered one Saturday each month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    Cost: $70 (book is mandatory)

    Please note:  The Heartsaver First Aid class may also be taken separately at a cost of $40 (book is mandatory).

  • Classes for healthcare providers:
    Healthcare Provider CPR -- This classroom course is designed to teach healthcare providers basic CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) skills such as giving CPR to an infant, child, or an adult, using an AED, and using a mask or barrier device. Upon successful completion of the class, participants will receive an American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR Course Completion Card valid for two years.

    Schedule: Offered several dates each month from 3 to 8 p.m.
    Cost: $50 (book is mandatory)

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) -- This two-day course is designed to help healthcare providers enhance their skills in the treatment of an adult victim of a cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergency. The course emphasizes the importance of basic life support CPR to patient survival, the integration of effective basic life support with advanced cardiovascular life support interventions, and the importance of effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation.

    Schedule:  Offered every other month on a Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    Cost: $125 (book is mandatory)

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support Class (PALS) -- The two-day PALS program is an active participation course designed to give healthcare professionals the knowledge and skills to better recognize and treat critically ill infants and children. The course uses a scenario-based, team approach to teach emergency management of pediatric patients approaching or already in respiratory or cardiac arrest. It also covers treatment beyond the first few emergency minutes and goes through stabilizing patients or transport phases of a pediatric emergency, in or out of the hospital. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an American Heart Association PALS Provider Course Completion Card valid for two years.

    Schedule: Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on selected dates
