Preventing Future Fractures

A successful recovery is accomplished by following the advice of your medical team and their specific, individualized treatment plans. Our program aims to minimize complications with an ultimate goal of getting patients back to their pre-injury level of activity through our comprehensive team approach. As part of your care plan, we will evaluate your fall risk and help you avoid future falls.

What causes you to fall?

  • Loss of balance
  • Muscle weakness
  • Joint stiffness
  • Uneven surfaces
  • Poor vision
  • Dizziness
  • Medication side effects
  • Loose carpets, rugs, mats

Studies Have Shown

  • As many as 30-50 percent of people return to their pre-fracture function. A well-coordinated recovery program with proper diet and exercise can improve chances of a full recovery.
  • Mortality rates from a hip fracture can be as high as 30 percent in the year after the fracture. Our program works to reduce this rate.
  • 40 percent of people who have a hip fracture have been unable to return home and have extended stays in skilled nursing homes. We will work together to ensure you have the best chance for success in returning to your home.

You are at higher risk of breaking another bone post-fracture, so it is important to prevent falls and make your bones stronger. We will help you strengthen your bones through proper nutrition, exercise and if needed, the proper medication. Routine exercise and staying active are the key to reducing the risk of future falls and fractures.
