There are many reasons why a doctor may recommend that a pregnant woman deliver her baby by caesarean section, also commonly known as a c-section. These reasons may include the size or position of the baby or other factors, such as a previous c-section or other abdominal surgery.
If your doctor recommends that you deliver your baby by c-section, the following will occur to ensure the highest level of care:
- Your doctor's office will contact YRMC's centralized scheduling department to schedule a date and time for your c-section.
- A time will be set for you to visit preadmission in the lobby of Women and Children's Services to complete your paperwork and have your lab tests completed.
- On the day of your scheduled c-section, you will be asked to check in at the Labor & Delivery department one to one and one-half hours in advance of your scheduled appointment.
- Your baby will be delivered by a physician, assisted by specialized nurses and staff members.
The majority of women remain in the hospital for 48 hours following a delivery by c-section. Contact your healthcare provider if you have any questions about deliveries by c-section.
