Laboratory

Yuma Regional Cancer Center offers a laboratory drawing station on-site for patient's convenience. Frequent lab work to monitor side effects and also progress with patient's treatments may be required. Patient's lab work is done by skilled lab technicians and nurses to draw from vascular access devices (ports). Some lab tests are processed on site and some tests will be sent to specialty labs.

Frequently drawn labs include:

CBC (complete blood count)

  • Measures white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets that can be decreased due to chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Chemistries

  • Helps assess the function of the liver, kidneys and depletion of electrolytes that can be caused by side effects of certain treatments.

Tumor Markers

  • Special tests that help physicians monitor the progress of the disease and effectiveness of your treatments.
