(July 9, 2013 – Yuma, AZ) The Drive for School Supplies is teaming up with KSWT News 13 to "Stuff the Bus" on Friday, July 19 from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m.

"The objective of "Stuff the Bus" is to fill a school bus with much needed school supplies, such as backpacks, crayons, pencils, rulers, glue, paper, folders, safety scissors, markers, pencil sharpeners and dictionaries," said Committee Co-Chair Rachael Barkley. "It is a great way for the entire community to get involved with helping our youth," Co-Chair Tom Tyree added.

"KSWT is proud to support the Drive for School Supplies and we will do all we can to spread the word about this worthwhile program. As a parent, I know that providing the children of our community with the resources they need to do well in school is one of the most important things we can do," said Julio Bermudez, general manager of KSWT News 13.

"Poverty significantly affects the resources available to students. Due to a lack of resources, many students will struggle to reach the same academic achievement levels of students not living in poverty. This, in turn can impact their ability to complete their education. As they grow up this can lead them to experience more years of unemployment, thus furthering their inability to escape poverty," said Foundation Executive Director, Wayne Steffey. "The YRMC family believes every child deserves a chance – we are honored to be a part of helping our community."

For those who are unable to make the "Stuff the Bus" event on July 19th, school supply collection boxes are located at Yuma Regional Medical Center, the Foundation of YRMC office located in the YRMC Corporate Center, Alexander Automotive Group, Arizona Western College, Coffee Bean, First Bank Yuma, Fisher Automotive, Foothill Shoes, Fisher Automotive, Gowan Company, Main Squeeze Winery, Manhattan Parlor, Mohave State Bank, Mostly Muffins, Mr. G's, National Bank of Arizona, Pint House, RDO Equipment, Sonora Nissan, University of Phoenix, Vanity Hair, Walgreens, Yuma City Hall, Yuma County Health Department and Yuma County Juvenile Justice Court.

In addition to donated supplies, cash donations are also accepted through the Foundation of YRMC. It costs $13 to fill each backpack with the supplies students need start the school year. Donations can be made on-line at, by calling the Foundation of YRMC office at 928.336.7045 or sent by mail to Foundation of YRMC, 2400 S. Avenue A, Yuma, AZ 85364-7170.
