The staff of Yuma Regional Medical Center recognizes the very important role that patients can play in helping ensure their own health and wellbeing, and that family members can play an equally important role. This is why we are deeply committed to the concept of Patient- and Family-Centered Care. This advanced approach to healthcare is based on forming a strong, mutually-beneficial partnership between our patients, their families and the members of our medical team with a goal of creating better health outcomes, a wiser allocation of resources and greater satisfaction for patients and their families.
Yuma Regional Medical Center embraces the four core concepts of Patient- and Family-Centered Care:
- Dignity and Respect. Our health care providers listen to and honor the patient's and family's perspectives and choices. Their knowledge, values, beliefs and cultural background are incorporated into the planning and delivery of care.
- Information Sharing. Our health care providers communicate and share complete and unbiased information with patients and families in ways that are affirming and useful. Patients and families receive timely, complete and accurate information in order to effectively participate in care and decision making.
- Participation. At Yuma Regional Medical Center, patients and families are encouraged and supported in their participation in care and decision making at whichever level they choose.
- Collaboration. Patients, families, health care providers and leaders at Yuma Regional Medical Center collaborate in the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and programs; in the design of health care facilities; in professional education and in the delivery of care.
Become a Patient & Family Partner Volunteer
We also recognize that our patients and their families are in an excellent position to provide us with valuable feedback we can use in our ongoing efforts to improve the quality of our care. That’s why we are looking for volunteers of all ages — from college to seniors — who have either experienced care at Yuma Regional Medical Center in the past two years or are a family member of a patient who has. The ideal Patient & Family Partner is someone who is a good listener, is dependable and has a genuine desire to be of service to others.
Patient & Family Partners are asked to make an ongoing commitment of their time, whether it's once a week or once a month. After successfully completing the interview process, Partners are assigned to a specific department where they are encouraged to provide the staff with insights and observations from a consumer perspective. This input is extremely valuable because it can help influence the policies, programs and practices that affect the care and services that patients and their families receive at Yuma Regional Medical Center.
