Care Philosophy

My philosophy about counseling is to meet a person where they are — no judgment — and treat them with a holistic approach. I take into account not just symptoms, but also social factors. I like to utilize compassion-focused therapy, which addresses the threat system, soothing system and drive system. It is more about learning self-compassion, showing oneself love and kindness. I teach patients how the emotional brain works and give them coping skills to help themselves.

Anita Comstock is a licensed professional counselor who has been providing therapy, clinical intervention, crisis care and counseling to patients for more than 15 years. As a therapist with Yuma Regional Medical Center Behavioral Health, she provides individual therapy to adults and teenagers, helping them develop the tools for a more meaningful life.
Anita credits a school guidance counselor, along with her personal desire to contribute in a helping profession, for influencing her to choose a career in mental health services. In addition to providing individual behavioral therapy, her career has allowed her to treat individuals in correctional facilities, social services agencies, substance abuse recovery programs and schools.

Anita earned her bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University. She then pursued her master’s degree with an emphasis in counseling from the same institution. She is a certified domestic violence facilitator as well as an NBCC national certified counselor.
