|“Change is the only constant in life.” – Heraclitus|
With every new employee and every new board member, we have the opportunity to change — to evolve — to better serve and meet our community’s needs.
THEN: The mission of the Foundation was “to support the long- and short-term needs of the hospital.” (Circa 1975)
The Foundation of Yuma Regional Medical Center has transformed over the years, much like its creator and counterpart, Yuma Regional Medical Center. The hospital came into existence in 1958, not as we know it today, but rather as Parkview Baptist Hospital. It wasn’t until 1970 that Yuma Regional Medical Center took shape, and five years later, in 1975, the Foundation was created.
The Yuma Regional Medical Center Operating Board and Hospital Auxiliary created the Foundation as a separate non-profit 501(c)(3) organization to accept charitable donations given to the hospital. At its inception, the Foundation was created solely to support the long- and short-term needs of Yuma Regional Medical Center. The first fundraising project was a campaign to raise funds to purchase the only CT scanner in the desert Southwest. The campaign was a success for the Foundation and Yuma Regional Medical Center. The Foundation’s Board would remain focused on the purchase of equipment for various departments within the hospital for many years.
NOW: The mission of the Foundation is “to support a healthy community through philanthropy.”
Similar to the ever-changing tides of need within our community, the Foundation has also undergone change in order to better identify and satisfy those community needs. In fact, this became the new mission and sole focus of the Foundation.
Today, we are deeply invested in various programs and initiatives that address our community’s unique and challenging health needs, and the Foundation is constantly looking for opportunities to address these needs in innovative and cost-effective ways. To accomplish these goals, the Foundation of Yuma Regional Medical Center raises money from individuals, families, businesses, foundations and grant-making organizations. This is done through a variety of fundraising avenues that include annual appeals, grant requests and special events. There are also various independent organizations that support the Foundation’s fundraising endeavors by hosting annual events and donating the proceeds to our causes.
