YRMC offers community assistance during Marketplace enrollment

Yuma County residents wanting to purchase insurance through the federal government’s Health Insurance Marketplace have a shorter window of opportunity this year.

Open enrollment period for Marketplace insurance began November 1 and closes Dec. 15.

To assist Yuma County with healthcare-related questions and enrollment, Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC) will be available to provide assistance during evening and weekend hours by appointment.

“This year, the current open enrollment period is only 45 days, much shorter than previous years,” said Amada Lorona, Patient Access Director at YRMC. “For your future, health and wellbeing, it is important to make health insurance enrollment a priority.”

YRMC’s Certified Application Counselors are available to help to make the enrollment process as easy as possible for the public. Help is available in both English and Spanish. “We have extended our hours to evenings and Saturdays during the enrollment period to help our community,” Lorona said. “People wanting to make an appointment may call (928) 336-7011.”

As part of the Affordable Care Act, all citizens are required to have health insurance or pay a fine. For 2017, the penalty fee is $695 per adult, $347.50 per child and up to $2,085 per household or two-and-half percent of a family’s yearly household income, whichever is greater.

While the enrollment period for Marketplace is from November 1st through December 15, Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) and Kids Care registration is open year-round. Individuals with low annual income, who live in the state of Arizona and are a legal resident, may be eligible for AHCCCS. Applicants are no longer required to have children under the age of 18 to qualify. Information regarding eligibility for this state program can be found at www.healthearizonaplus.gov or by calling 1-855-432-7585.

YRMC staff is also assisting community members with AHCCCS and Kids Care enrollment during the current extended service hours. In order to enroll, people will need their date of birth, Social Security number, proof of income and proof of residency.
