COVID-19: Yuma Generosity

Foundation of YRMC accepting donations of supplies for local healthcare heroes

In light of COVID-19, the Yuma community is offering incredible support for our local healthcare heroes, including the donation of needed medical supplies and other resources for Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC).

To help make community donations convenient, as well as to direct items to where they will be needed most, the Foundation of Yuma Regional Medical Center has created a special committee. This committee will oversee the collection of what supplies YRMC’s doctors, nurses and infection control experts say will be needed most by the hospital and its patients.

Examples of supplies and resources needed locally include:

  • Medical grade masks and surgical masks (Example: N-95 masks)
  • Heavy-duty safety goggles that are splash resistant
  • Handmade mask covers (NOTE: Instructions available online)
  • Disinfectant wipes (not for clinical use, to help allocate hospital-grade supplies)
  • Household disinfectant products, such as Clorox and Lysol (not for clinical use, to help allocate hospital-grade supplies)
  • Electronic signs for traffic control
  • Metal barriers for traffic/crowd control

When appropriate, donations will be properly sanitized prior to distribution at YRMC.

Secure monetary donations are also being accepted by the Foundation. Those donations will support YRMC employees who are financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. To make such a donation, please visit yumaregional.org/covid19donations.

People throughout the community are also offering to sew masks/mask covers, which doctors, nurses and other medical providers can wear over their hospital-grade masks. This will help extend the usability of the traditional masks. YRMC will then be able to better conserve its supply of this precious resource.

Instructions for making mask covers can be found online at yumaregional.org/covid19donations.

If donors are higher-risk (over the age of 65 or immunocompromised) committee members will provide pick-up service to protect donors’ health.

Donors may drop off items at the Foundation of Yuma Regional Medical Center, located inside the YRMC Corporate Center, 399 West 32nd St. Donors are asked to please schedule a drop-off by contacting Director Jackie Woodwell at (928) 336-7046 or [email protected]. Donations are being accepted from 9 am to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
