What to Expect

Soon after you arrive at the Emergency Department, you will be assessed by a care provider who will determine the severity and type of medical issue you are experiencing. This information will be used to determine the next steps that will be required for your care. Patients who arrive at the Emergency Department with serious and/or life-threatening conditions will receive top priority due to the critical nature of their medical needs. For your safety, we routinely follow these rules when prescribing medications for pain.

The amount of time you spend in our Emergency Department will depend on your symptoms, the illness or injury involved and whether you will need to be admitted to the hospital. Your wait time may also take a bit longer if you require special tests, procedures or x-rays. The Emergency Department physician who is treating you may also need to speak with a specialist in order to give you the best care possible. While you’re sitting in the waiting room, an entire team of medical care providers may be working in another area, going over your medical records, lab results and x-rays to determine the best course of treatment for you.

Visitor Policy

  • For security reasons, visitors must present a valid photo identification card (ID) at the front desk prior to entering the unit and will be given a visitor badge.
  • All visitors must remain with the patient they are visiting at all times.
  • Food and beverage items are not allowed in the Emergency Department.
  • Only two visitors will be allowed to visit a patient at one time, including the patient’s spouse or partner or the patient’s children, stepchildren, grandchildren or siblings.

Kids are Super Heroes at the Yuma Regional Medical Center Emergency Department

We understand that a visit to the Emergency Department can be a scary experience for children, whether they need treatment themselves or are accompanying a family member who does. That’s why we’re dedicated to treating our youngest patients and visitors like the super heroes that they are. Our Emergency Department has a fun, brightly-colored play area to provide a welcoming space for kids of all ages, from toddlers to older children. And children who need emergency medical treatment will become true super heroes – they’ll receive a “Super Kids Kit” that contains coloring pages, crayons and stickers along with one of our super hero capes that have been lovingly made by Yuma Regional Medical Center volunteers.

The Yuma Regional Medical Center Emergency Department is located on the hospital’s main campus at 2400 S. Avenue A, Yuma, AZ 85364. The entrance to the Emergency Department is off of Avenue A.
