Cardiac patients often have many questions about how to make the transition back to their normal, day-to-day activities after they’ve been treated for a heart condition. As a cardiac patient at Yuma Regional Medical Center, you’ll receive all the support you need to make that transition. Our medically-supervised outpatient Phase II cardiac rehabilitation program is designed to optimize your physical functioning while stabilizing, slowing, or even reversing the progression of the underlying causes of your heart condition to help you enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle.
Once you’ve been referred for cardiac rehabilitation by your primary care physician or cardiac specialist, you’ll begin the supervised phase of our program which typically runs for six to twelve weeks. You’ll attend sessions three days a week, during which time you’ll benefit from a comprehensive list of services that includes:
- Assessment of your needs.
- Exercise sessions that are closely supervised, monitored and progressed according to your exercise tolerance.
- Education in the form of eight weekly classes that cover coronary artery disease and how to minimize your cardiac risk factors.
- Individualized counseling regarding nutrition, smoking cessation, weight loss, diabetes management, stress reduction and return-to-work issues.
Our goal is to do everything possible to increase your survival outlook, improve your quality of life and safely build your cardiac, pulmonary and vascular fitness. Your cardiac rehab team will include a registered nurse, exercise physiologists, a registered dietician, and a respiratory therapist. Our program is led by a physician and all staff members are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support
Continuing Maintenance Program
We have suspended this program during the pandemic, but we hope it returns soon.
We also offer a Phase III cardiac rehab continuing maintenance program to all patients who have completed Phase II as well as other individuals seeking to reduce their cardiac risk factors or improve their overall health. In order to enter the maintenance program, patients must demonstrate the ability to self-regulate their exercise routine and they will be responsible for monitoring their own heart rate. Staff members are available to assess vital signs and cardiac rhythm, answer questions and address concerns. Phase III participants enjoy a sense of well-being and control as they maintain a commitment to cardiovascular fitness and healthy lifestyle choices.
With the help of our cardiac rehabilitation program, more and more cardiac patients are returning to healthy, active lifestyles. The assistance of our highly-trained staff and access to a wide variety of equipment will ensure your safe, steady progress as you take an active role in improving your cardiac function.
