Cesarean Section

If your doctor recommends that you deliver your baby by cesarean section, also known as a c-section, you can be assured that you and your baby will receive the highest standard of care at Yuma Regional Medical Center. In fact, we are one of the first hospitals in the nation to be recognized as a Blue Distinction® Center for Maternity Care by Blue Cross Blue Shield. This special program recognizes our commitment to provide quality, safe and affordable maternity care.
There are many reasons why a doctor may recommend that a pregnant woman deliver her baby by cesarean section. These reasons may include the size or position of the baby or other factors, such as a previous c-section or other abdominal surgery. Please note that in order to protect the health and safety of our maternity patients and their babies, we do not offer early elective deliveries if there is no medically valid reason to do so.

Your C-section Procedure

When you are going to be scheduled for a c-section, the following steps will occur:

  • Your doctor's office will contact our Labor & Delivery department to schedule a date and time for your c-section.
  • If additional paperwork and lab work is needed, a time will be set for you to visit preadmission in the main lobby of the hospital to complete your paperwork and have your lab tests completed.
  • On the day of your scheduled c-section, you will be asked to check in at the Labor & Delivery department two hours in advance of your scheduled appointment.
  • Your baby will be delivered by a physician who will be assisted by specialized nurses and staff members.

The majority of women remain in the hospital for 48 hours following a delivery by c-section.

If you have any questions about your c-section procedure, please call 928-336-1085 or contact your healthcare provider.
