Sports Physicals

Fall sports are right around the corner! Making sure your child is ready to play a sport is important. The sports physical examination is one of the most import things you can do before your child begins playing.

Sports physicals provide parents and their young athletes the opportunity to speak with a medical provider about health and any issues he or she might be experiencing. It’s also a great time to discuss how to avoid sports injuries.
The sports physical is not a substitute for your child’s complete well-child exam, which may include blood work and immunizations, but they may be completed at the same time upon request.

Sports Players

During the exam, your provider will usually:

  • Record height and weight
  • Test vision
  • Take blood pressure and pulse (heart rate and rhythm)
  • Check heart, lungs, abdomen, ears, nose and throat
  • Evaluate posture, joints, strength and flexibility
