Treatments Services

The world-renowned cardiovascular surgeons at the Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Clinic at Yuma Regional Medical Center have extensive expertise treating a wide variety of thoracic (relating to the chest) and lung conditions. The procedures they perform include:

A procedure to rebuild the chest after a major trauma or surgery.
Surgery performed to treat injuries caused by blunt force, penetration or compression to the patient’s chest.
A procedure used to remove a diseased portion of a patient’s lung.
Removes the surface layer, or membrane, of a patient’s lung when the membrane is restricting expansion of the lung.
Used to treat lung conditions such as emphysema and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), this procedure is performed to remove the diseased portion of the patient’s lung to enable the healthy portion of the lung to expand when the patient breathes.
This procedure enables the surgeon to view the area between a patient’s lungs for the purpose of obtaining a biopsy to detect any lung cancer present or to diagnose other conditions.
Removes a small sample of the patient’s lung tissue so it can be tested to determine if any cancer, infection or lung disease is present.
As the name suggests, the surgeon creates a “window” to enable excess fluid to drain from the sac surrounding a patient’s heart.
This surgery is performed to remove a patient’s entire lung when the removal of a smaller portion of the lung would not be sufficient to treat cancer or another disease.
During this procedure, the breastbone (sternum), which is located in the center of the chest, is divided to give the surgeon access to the patient’s heart.
To treat an aneurysm, the surgeon removes the damaged portion of the aorta and replaces it with a mesh tube called a graft.
A small video camera inserted into a scope is used to enable the surgeon to see the inside of a patient’s chest cavity for the purpose of taking biopsies, removing growths or treating other conditions.
During this procedure, the surgeon removes a triangle-shaped portion of tissue to eliminate a tumor or other diseased area of the lung.
