Body Mass Index

If you’re wondering if weight loss surgery is right for you, a good place to start is by calculating your BMI (body mass index). This calculation measures your weight in relation to your height and is a good indicator of healthy weight for both men and women.

To determine your BMI, use this simple calculator:

A BMI higher than 30 is associated with increased health risks, and those with a BMI of 35 or more are considered to be morbidly obese by the National Institutes of Health. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), morbid obesity is the number one health problem in the United States.

Those who qualify for weight loss surgery have a BMI of at least 35 with a significant health problem such as high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes or sleep apnea, or a BMI of over 40. Please note that this BMI calculator is for adults only.
