Screening and Diagnostic Testing

One of the first steps the thoracic and lung experts at Yuma Regional Medical Center take to assess the condition of a patient’s lungs is to perform one or more screening and diagnostic tests.

  • Bronchoscopy - This procedure enables a physician to look inside a patient’s airways by inserting a bronchoscope tube, which contains a small, light camera. Bronchoscopy can be used to detect tumors, signs of infection, excess mucus in the airways, bleeding or blockages in the lungs.
  • Endobronchial Ultrasound – A minimally invasive procedure that uses ultrasound (high-frequency soundwaves) to diagnose lung cancer, infections and other diseases of the lungs.
  • Lung Screening – This quick, non-invasive yearly screening exam is designed for patients who are at high risk for developing lung cancer. It can detect cancer at an early stage before any symptoms appear.
  • Pulmonary Function Testing – A group of tests that can determine how well a patient’s lungs are functioning. These tests are also used to diagnose breathing problems and other conditions that affect the lungs.

If you are scheduled for a screening or diagnostic test and have questions, of if you need to make an appointment, please call 928-336-2784.
