Yuma Regional Medical Center Cancer Center is staffed by specialists who are dedicated to providing excellence in cancer care.


Abhinav Chandra, M.D.

Medical Director

Dr. Abhinav Chandra serves as the medical director of Yuma Regional Cancer Center. He completed his Internal Medicine residency and Hematology/Oncology fellowship at Mainmonides Medical Center and Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn, New York.

Brenda Ernst, M.D.

Dr. Brenda Ernst received her medical degree from St. George University School of Medicine in Bay Shore, NY. She completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Orlando Regional Medical Center. She also completed a Fellowship in Hematology/Oncology from Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Scottsdale, AZ.

Augustine Lau, M.D.

Dr. Augustine Lau was born and raised in Yuma, AZ.  He completed his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Arizona. During medical school, he became a commissioned United States Naval officer and completed his Internal Medicine Internship at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Upon completion of his U.S. Navy flight surgeon training in Pensacola, FL, he reported for duty at MCAS-Yuma as flight surgeon for MAWTS-1. Following his military service he completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. After practicing medicine independently in Yuma for one year, Dr. Lau completed his Hematology/Oncology Fellowship at the University of Arizona. Dr. Lau is board certified in medical oncology and he was the first recipient of the Dr. Peter Sullivan Fellowship Award created in honor of Dr. Peter Sullivan. Lau’s family continues to reside and work in Yuma.

Robert Takesuye, D.O.

Dr. Robert Takesuye completed a Radiation Oncology residency in August 2009 and is board certified by the American Board of Radiology and the American Osteopathic Board of Radiology.  He has participated in numerous radiation oncology clinical trials at Los Angeles County/University of Southern California (LAC/USC) Medical Center.
He has also served as a senior staff radiation oncologist at the Navy’s premier west coast medical center offering a variety of radiation oncology services. 

Gregory Yang, M.D.

Dr. Gregory Yang serves as Director of Research and Clinical Trials. He is board eligible in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. Dr. Yang received his Medical Doctorate from University of the East in Manila, Philippines. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Loyola University St. Francis Hospital of Evanston in Evanston, IL. He additionally completed his fellowship in hematology and oncology at Northwestern University St. Francis Hospital of Evanston in Evanston, IL. Dr. Yang holds a Bachelor of Science in nutrition from the University of Arizona in Tucson.

Carrie Lopez, N.P. 

Carrie Lopez, D.N.P. received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree from University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ and is an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner.

Carrie's clinical areas of interests include, treating cancer, providing supportive care, pain management, symptom management, enhancing survivorship, long term symptom management, sexual health and health related anxiety and depression. Carrie and her husband enjoy spending time with their nine children.  They love to travel, attend sporting events, and visit family in Minnesota. In her spare time Carrie enjoys listening to music and going to concerts, reading, exercising and spending time with her church family.
